The new Dremel DigiLab 3D45 3D printer from Dremel is a fully-enclosed 3D printer that is great for the everyday user, schools and those who have print farms. The Dremel family of 3D printers are easily networked together for remote access and monitoring of print jobs, making them ideal for a number of applications in education and manufacturing.
The newer 3D45 boasts a few improvements over previous Dremel models, such as an all-metal hotend, heated build plate, higher printing resolution, and the capability to print with both nylon and ABS in addition to the ubiquitous PLA.
Dremel is a company more well-known for their rotary tools used worldwide by jewelers, mold-makers, woodworkers, and metalworkers. Dremel was started in 1932 in Racine, Wisconsin by Albert Dremel. This new venture into 3D printers, you can see the focus they place on machines that can network, and work hard for education and production purposes.

Fully-Enclosed with Carbon Filters
Coupled with the all-metal hotend, the DigiLab 3D 45 is capable of printing ABS and nylon with fantastic results. The fully-enclosed printing area stays at a higher relative temperature than the outside environment, giving ABS and nylon optimum environments for successful printing. The chamber is also equipped with particulate and carbon filters to eliminate VOC emissions from the build chamber during printing.
The 3D45 DigiLab is equipped with a camera, onboard 3DPrinterOS, and WiFi capability, making it ideal for networking in a print farm, for remote monitoring at a school, and many other applications. The 3D45 also accepts .gcode, which is a step up from previous iterations, which did not.
A major upgrade over previous iterations of the DigiLab, the 3D45 has an all-metal hotend capable of reaching 280°C. This allows it to print a much wider variety of filaments, including ABS and nylon. With the fully-enclosed body, printing these materials becomes incredibly easy and reliable.
Heated Build Plate
Another great upgrade that greatly increases the options for materials and printing styles. The heated build plate allows much better adhesion on the glass plate by giving a more conducive surface for bed adhesion of PLA, ABS, and nylon. The heated bed also fosters a higher ambient temperature inside the fully-enclosed chamber, making ABS and nylon printing a breeze.
Quick, Easy Setup
With the touchscreen and wireless capability, the DigiLab 3D45 is extremely easy to set up and start on your first print within about 30 minutes out of the box. There are also detailed YouTube instructions, and a printed manual for those that need more information.
Almost everything can be controlled right from the touchscreen if your DigiLab 3D45 is connected to a network. Because the 3D45 is equipped with the onboard 3DPrinterOS, printer-based commands are quick and easy to manage right at the touchscreen interface.
For those who are looking for high repeatability, remote monitoring, networkability, and sturdy machines that can print all day and night, the DigiLab 3D45 is a fantastic machine. Especially with the added ability to print with both nylon and ABS with the fully-enclosed print bed, as well as the filtration system. This gives users more options on the placement of the unit inside a workshop, classroom, or print farm.
The Dremel does come with two spools of Dremel brand filament; one spool each of nylon and ABS. Users that want to expand to non-Dremel spools will need to adapt the side case with an elongated spool holder, as the Dremel case does not accommodate common size spools.
The standard configuration on the 3D45 is more than enough to handle any print jobs needed when using PLA, ABS, and nylon. Any further modifications would be a challenge to undertake – most of the unit contains proprietary technology and hardware that is not compatible with most accessories on the market.
If you are looking for plug-and-play capability and low day-to-day maintenance, with high-repeatability of tasks in a networked configuration, this is a fantastic 3D printer. If you also don’t need to spend additional time or resources on upgrades, but still want great print resolution and consistency, these are all great reasons to consider the DigiLab 3D45.
